I lived in Jiaodaokou just down the street from Nanluoguxiang from 2006 to 2012. I loved wandering around the hutong in that part of the city. Sure, Nanluoguxiang is commercial and crass in a way, but it is on a down to earth scale and full of people enjoying themselves. It's a fun place. I do wish the city would find a way to prohibit cars on Nanluoguxiang - a car honking its way through on a crowded afternoon did nothing for the atmosphere. :)
