We're back from Ireland, just as the Daodejing would predict:
Return is the movement of Way, and yielding the method of Way.
All Beneath heaven, the ten thousand things, it's all born of being, and being is born of nonbeing. 40
Yes, that business about being and nonbeing is a bit too abstruse for my purposes here, but we have followed in the movement of Way nonetheless....
It was a great trip (even if the DDJ would see it as unnecessary). Dublin was lively and picturesque. We saw some of the big sights - Trinity College, Kilmainham Gaol - and went to a play, O'Casey's "Plough and the Stars," at the Abbey Theater. We also made it into a pub or two for a pint or two with a friend, most notably the Brazen Head and the Stag's Head. Galway was boisterous and colorful. We used it as a base for day trips to Inis Mor, Connemara, The Burren, and, my new favorite place, Cong Abbey. The Crane Bar, appropriately enough, was a fine location for a pint.
I had the exhilarating experience of driving a rental car on narrow winding lanes and can confirm that Irish drivers are truly crazy...
We also saw another O'Casey play, "The Silver Tassie," performed by the Druid company in Galway. I will be posting something on O'Casey and Zhuangzi soon...
All in all a great trip. But we're back now. The semester looms before me. Some pictures for remembrance below the fold...
