My book - Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Dao: Ancient Chinese Thought in Modern American Life - is out! You can get it directly from the publisher, Wiley. On Amazon, as of today, only the Kindle edition is available. Although they say the paperback was supposed to be released on September 16th, it is still on "pre-order." Not sure what the hang-up is. But any day now, the Amazon paperback will ship.
And so, I will be off to China in early November to do some talks on the general topic of the book. Here's the itinerary:
November 4th, 7:30PM, The Bookworm in Beijing. I look forward to this one, as it could bring together various readers of The Useless Tree in the capital. All are welcome! I will link to the Bookworm's formal announcement as we get closer to the date. But save the date now!
November 6th, 3:00PM, The Hopkins-Nanjing Center in Nanjing. This will be focused more on the students and faculty of the Center (where I taught way back in the stone age of the 1988-89 academic year). But if any Useless Tree readers in Nanjing want to come, please get in touch with me and I'll arrange it.
November 7th, 7:15, The Wooden Box Cafe in Shanghai. This event is being sponsored by the Hopkins China Forum, a group of Shanghai-based alums of the aforementioned Hopkins-Nanjing Center. But this event is open to the public. The venue is small, however, so if you would like to attend you should contact me, and I will pass along that information to the organizers. And you'll notice that the place is a little jazz spot, which means right after I finish the talk, we can all kick back, have a drink, and enjoy some music.
If you are in any of these cities near those dates, send me a message. If you can't make a talk, I am always happy to meet up for a meal or a drink at some other time.
Congratulations. Both pride and relief to see the toil become manifest.
